Marsh Betony Stachy Palustris
I have always called this Marsh betoney. But the wikipeida has it listed as Marsh woundwort. It has square stems with opposite stemless leaves. the purple red flowers are in terminal spikes. It is edible and also a big attraction for the bees. It is perennial. It spreads vegitatively by hollow roots. It is vigorous and found on the shores of lakes and banks of streams and damp meadows. It blooms in summer for weeks. Mixed in with native planting it is sure to please your aquatic landscape.
