Welcome 2016.
I hope everyone had a Happy Holiday and Good New Year. 2015 left us in mild and warmer than normal temperatures. For me it will forever be remembered as the year I had a water lily bloom in December. One for the records. The year where we had to turn the A/c on at Christmas. As we begin 2016 we still see a mix of hot and cold temperatures. Fish and plants will be susceptible to stress and damage if not monitored accordingly. In this newsletter we will look at some of the factors of the fluctuating temperatures on fish in water gardens.

 Fluctuating Water Temperatures
It seems the fish are very active for this time of year. Many people will still feed them during the warm days, Remember water temperature does not fluctuate as fast as the ambient temperatures. And where your pond is situated in the yard will also have an effect on how fast water temperatures fluctuate. The link will take you to more tips about fluctuating water temperatures on fish

My favorite products to keep on hand for winter pond care.
- Thermometer- To determine when to feed fish and how much the water temperatures are fluctuating.
- De Icer- Leaves a whole open in the ice to allow bad gasses to escape .
- Water Garden Gloves - They fit to the elbow to protect your skim from the frigid water
- Sludge digester- Can be used in cold temperatures to eliminate organic sludge in the bottom of the pond
- Anacharis- A hardy underwater plant that helps feed fish when you are not providing food and keeps water clean from algae.
